When it comes to Erica Banks, not many people know who she is.
Erica Banks is an upcoming artist who, until now, has flown mostly under the radar. In 2021, Banks gained fame for her song “Buss It” on Tik Tok.
Recently the rising star has gotten a lot of attention but not in a good way. She has been getting backlash from social media users after saying she wouldn’t want to go clubbing with friends who didn’t look a certain way physically—for example, skinny or unattractive.
In the leaked conversation, Banks said: “If she don’t look how I want her to look physically, I don’t want her to come, because the look and everything is so important to me. If she ain’t thick enough no. Her not been good enough No, can’t dress no, skinny no”: Banks said in the leaked conversation.
Banks continued saying: “I don’t feel like I’m discriminating. I just want a certain type of look. She could be the sweetest girl I ever met in my life but if she don’t look that part I don’t want her to come. This is not the vibe I’m on. She can come to the cookout, she can come to the listening party but at the club, I feel like b*tches gotta look a certain way to come.”
People on social media have not taken this lightly and have started commenting about what Erica said.
One user tweeted: “This crazy coming from a warthog. Erica Banks not even attractive enough to be saying this out loud. Just got bullied into getting a BBL. Stop it.”
Banks has responded to the backlash. She stated that her purpose for who she collabs with when it comes to her brand has nothing to do with anyone else.
In one of her tweets, Banks said: “Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and I’ve never been one to convince people of liking mine. My purposes of who I collab with, when it comes to my brand has nothing to do with y’all. Y’all never like me anyway so why would I care about what y’all think about anything I say.”
The upcoming artist’s response didn’t stop the backlash on social media.
Cherry Lou, a Twitter user, posted pictures of beautiful slim black women. One of the photos was Coi Leray—who is much more popular than Banks.
“Like, Erica banks couldn’t even fk w/NON of these beautiful SLIM/SKINNY women … they’d steal all the spotlight if they were in the same section as her.”
Others have been quick to point out that Banks is not even remotely close in popularity to artists like Coi Leray
Another user responded by posting unflattering pictures of Banks.
The backlash has been swift and harsh, but some people are coming to Erica’s defense. They say she’s just being honest about what she wants and needs in order to feel good about herself when she goes out at night—and they’re right! The fact is that we all deserve to be able to feel our best when we go out into the world—and if that means only hanging out with people who look like us or live up to our standards, then so be it!
Meanwhile, some people on social media are still trying to figure out who the hell Erica Banks is—and why they should care about any of this.
