On Monday, September 12, 2022 Rapper PNB Rock, real name Rakim Allen, died at the age of 30. The rapper, from Philadelphia, was eating with his girlfriend at Los Angeles‘ Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles when he was shot and killed.
According to reports, the 30-year-old rapper was approached by an armed suspect who demanded his jewelry and belongings. The suspect then shot the victim before fleeing the scene.
The Philadelphia native suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital in serious condition, where he was pronounced dead at 1:59 pm PDT.
That day, Rock’s girlfriend made a crucial mistake: she posted their location on Instagram. Twenty minutes later, her boyfriend was shot dead by someone who knew where they were eating—and came there looking for him specifically. After the incident, she deleted the post from Instagram, but not before it had been captured and shared online by many people who were following along with her story via social media.
Police have not released much information about the suspect at this time and are reviewing video footage from surveillance cameras on the scene.
Within minutes of the announcement that PNB Rock had died, a wave of shock and sadness spread across social media.
Many social media fans expressed their respect for the late rapper, including Kodak Black. However, Yak called out Rock’s girlfriend in his post he wrote: “BIG JETS ONLY JETS ANYWAYS”
“Mannn I beeen low all day due to a headache I had earlier. So Im jus getting to the new fr.”
“Ion usually speak on deaths! Go to funerals or nun kuz life goes on but smh PNB was my boy. I was jus OTP wit em last night! We be talking bout him coming back out & poppin his shit again in this rap shit.”
“That hoe might as well kill herself.”
In contradiction to Yak’s post, Cardi B shared her thoughts about the situation via Twitter by saying:
“I highly doubt n**as was looking at PMB’s babymom IG. He was in a bad location and people stay outside plotting. It’s very irresponsible and inconsiderate to blame her for something so tragic. We should be sending nothing but love to her and his family at this time.”
DJ Akademiks also took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter:
“A lot of ppl hurt over the passing of PNB Rock.. everyone passing blame to everyone but the n**ga who actually killed him… the reason why he got killed is because some bum ass n**ga decided to try to rob him and take his life. Everything else is extra.”
Rock’s homie Meek Mill reacted with the following message: “Rip dawg you didn’t deserve that… Every time I see one of my friends bleed out on camera or killed on camera, I feel a sick feeling I can’t even really explain… it puts me more and more back in survival mentality!”
6ix9ine (the rat of New York) also tweeted about Rock passing. His post wasn’t shocking to nobody: he was disrespectful as we expected! He shared the following quote:
This isn’t an isolated incident: it’s an issue that’s been plaguing the music industry for years.
The incident follows a disturbing pattern, in which high-profile rap artists who have been shot and killed after posting their location on social media.
In February 2020, 20-year-old Pop Smoke was killed in his Los Angeles rental house during a home invasion.
The rapper’s friend made the mistake of posting at least one photo on social media with an address in the background that could be seen clearly—which led to Pop Smoke’s death.
To make matters worse, social media has become such an integral part of our culture that people don’t even realize how much danger they’re putting themselves in when they share information about where they are and what they’re doing on these platforms.
Although we don’t think about it much, the way we share personal information online can be dangerous to us as well as others.
Dilemaradio is paying our respects to PNB Rock today with our condolences to his family and friends—and we hope that this tragedy can serve as an important reminder about how dangerous it can be to share your personal information on social media!
