For those who missed the recent court proceedings in the trial of YNW Melly, here is a recap of what has happened so far and the latest updates. The trial has been marked by testimonies from witnesses and evidence presented by both the defense and the prosecution.
During the court session on June 28, crime scene detective Sgt. Christopher Williams testified that, based on the evidence and his experience, it was evident that a drive-by shooting did not cause the deaths of Anthony Williams, known as YNW SakChaser, and Christopher Thomas Jr., known as YNW Juvy.
Sgt. Williams stated that Christopher Thomas Jr. seemed unaware of the impending danger, as he was caught off guard with his hands raised, almost as if he was pleading not to be shot. The detective also pointed out a defensive wound on Thomas Jr.'s body, which, according to him, indicated that he had no prior knowledge of the impending attack.
While Melly's defense claims that the rappers were victims of a drive-by shooting, the prosecution argues that Jamell Demons, also known as YNW Melly, shot both of his friends from inside the vehicle. The jury will have the opportunity to view the car involved in the incident once additional security measures are in place.

On June 29, YNW Juvy's mother, Leondra Phillips, took the stand as a witness. She identified her son in surveillance footage captured outside the recording studio where YNW Melly, YNW Juvy, YNW SakChaser, and YNW Bortlen were present on the day of the crime.

Moving forward to June 30, Cortlen Henry, also known as YNW Bortlen, appeared in court ahead of his own double murder trial. He is accused of murdering his two friends, YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser, along with YNW Melly. The prosecution alleges that they staged the killings to make it appear as a drive-by shooting. Bortlen's trial is scheduled for October 2.
In an effort to strengthen their case, prosecutors have been trying to subpoena Fredo Bang, the rapper from Louisiana, who reportedly picked up YNW Melly after YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser were killed in the alleged staged drive-by shooting. However, Fredo Bang has proven difficult to reach, ignoring the requests from lawyers. Instead, he released a new rap track titled “Free Melly,” where he mentioned the subpoena in question.
The YNW Melly trial will resume on Monday, July 10th. Stay tuned for further updates on this ongoing case.
Melly's family members are continuing to support the rapper, no matter what. They say their family bond is strong and promise to be there for Melly, regardless of what occurs during the trial.
On her social media account, Melly's mother shared a message that reads: “I'm deleting the app. I can't be crying and making myself upset because of a lying clout chaser who won't show his face in court but care so much. I had 1 heart attack already because of stress. I refuse to let this kill me. I try to be peaceful and respectful to all of you. I pray for everyone because I know it's the right thing to do.”
