According to initial reports, the incident occurred while the rapper was driving his car and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. BTB Savage was pronounced dead at the scene.

As the investigation continues, a statement from the rapper's mother Bernita Ward Lardell has brought attention to the recent interview BTB Savage had with Vlad TV. She claims that the interview was edited in a way that focused on the robbery incident instead of her son's career. She also expressed her opinion that black rappers should avoid working with . In her own words, she wrote, “My son did the VLAD VIDEO ON MARCH 17, 2023. Vlad Tv DID NOT DROP THE FOOTAGE UNTIL MARCH 29,2023. They edited the footage to make the video what it was. My son was going to do an interview about his music, and Vlad kept harping on the Omar situation. Darrell said Naw fam let's just stick to the music R.I.P. to that man. VLAD didn't even put the music convo on there.”

The rapper's mother Bernita Ward Lardell wrote: “Vlad strategically dropped the video day before they planned to kill him. The interview was done on March 17th AND it aired on March 29th. They edited the footage and left out the remorse my son showed concerning the matter. They left out when my son said let's just stick to the music. My son and daughter-in-law suffered PTSD behind the matter. It was just a situation of kill or be killed. Both families suffered a great loss and I pray that the world allows us to heal.”

Bernita Ward Lardell has made further remarks about the tragic death of her son in another social media statement. She explained the whole situation, stating that her son was contacted by Omar Richardson and his nephew Ishmael to do a feature for a song. They came to her son's home to record the track, but when they arrived, they pulled out guns to rob him and harm his family. A physical altercation broke out, and shots were fired, leading to the death of Richardson and injuries to both parties involved.

She pleaded with her son to let the family mourn in peace, but the young people were so social media-driven that they ambushed his car, leading to his death.

Ward Lardell emphasized that two mothers had lost their sons in this tragedy, and their children would grow up without fathers. She vowed to deal with the matter according to her own principles and stated that she was not a weeper but a worshipper. She had faith that God had this situation under control, and she would keep the motion going to honor her son's memory.

In her statement, Ward Lardell made it clear that she was not the type of mother to cover up her child's wrongdoings. She acknowledged that her son had made his own choices, and like many of us, he had not always made wise decisions. Nonetheless, he was a wonderful father, son, and brother who loved his family and was on his way to a great music career.

Ward Lardell invited people to donate to her family through Cashapp and Venmo accounts. She signed off by saying “R.I.P TO MY SOLDIER DARRELL JAH-Qui Gentry a.k.a BTB SAVAGE.”

BTB Savage's mother also announced that funeral services will be shared later on, and she is currently focusing on comforting her grandchildren who are grieving the loss of their uncle Debop and their father, who was dearly loved.
