On March 30, 2023, Brian Thompson, also known as BTB Savage, was fatally shot near River Oaks in Houston. The incident occurred shortly after his much-discussed interview with Vlad TV, which has become a topic of heated discussion among his fans and fellow celebrities on social media. Since the interview, there have been speculation and rumors surrounding Thompson’s death, fueling further debate and conjecture. His untimely passing has left his fans and loved ones in mourning and searching for answers.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, BTB Savage rose to fame after his song “Dolce Gabbana” went viral on social media. However, the rapper’s past is marred by a 2020 shooting incident that resulted in the death of a young man, which he claimed was an act of self-defense.
In the latest interview with Vlad TV, Cleveland rapper BTB Savage opened up about the traumatic incident he and his girlfriend faced, where they were forced to defend themselves against an alleged robber. According to Savage, the incident occurred when an artist named Omar Richardson approached him to collaborate on a track and brought his entourage to Savage’s residence. As they started to survey his home’s interior, Savage grew increasingly suspicious of their intentions.
During the interview on Vlad TV, Savage gave a harrowing account of the incident where he and his girlfriend were threatened with violence by one of the entourage members. The assailant demanded Savage’s chain, leading to a physical altercation where both parties were shot. Savage and his girlfriend emerged as the only survivors after the rapper directed his girlfriend to shoot the intruder dead during the scuffle.
After sharing his experience of the violent altercation, Savage made a statement about the robbers and discouraged anyone from engaging in a rivalry with him and his loved ones. Tragically, four days after his interview on Vlad TV, BTB Savage was fatally shot at about 6:10 p.m. in the 2100 Block of Mid Lane. The news of his death was confirmed by his manager Blue Chezz.
On his Instagram account, Blue Chezz shared a video of Savage with the caption: “We was just getting started…R.I.P The Real Scam God.”
Rapper BTB Savage has been tragically killed in Houston, Texas after being shot multiple times by an unknown assailant. According to initial reports, the incident occurred while the rapper was driving his car and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. BTB Savage was pronounced dead at the scene.
As the investigation continues, a statement from the rapper’s mother Bernita Ward Lardell has brought attention to the recent interview BTB Savage had with Vlad TV. She claims that the interview was edited in a way that focused on the robbery incident instead of her son’s music career. She also expressed her opinion that black rappers should avoid working with DJ Vlad. In her own words, she wrote, “My son did the VLAD VIDEO ON MARCH 17, 2023. Vlad Tv DID NOT DROP THE FOOTAGE UNTIL MARCH 29,2023. They edited the footage to make the video what it was. My son was going to do an interview about his music, and Vlad kept harping on the Omar situation. Darrell said Naw fam let’s just stick to the music R.I.P. to that man. VLAD didn’t even put the music convo on there.”
The rapper’s mother Bernita Ward Lardell wrote: “Vlad strategically dropped the video day before they planned to kill him. The interview was done on March 17th AND it aired on March 29th. They edited the footage and left out the remorse my son showed concerning the matter. They left out when my son said let’s just stick to the music. My son and daughter-in-law suffered PTSD behind the matter. It was just a situation of kill or be killed. Both families suffered a great loss and I pray that the world allows us to heal.”
Bernita Ward Lardell has made further remarks about the tragic death of her son in another social media statement. She explained the whole situation, stating that her son was contacted by Omar Richardson and his nephew Ishmael to do a feature for a song. They came to her son’s home to record the track, but when they arrived, they pulled out guns to rob him and harm his family. A physical altercation broke out, and shots were fired, leading to the death of Richardson and injuries to both parties involved.
Ward Lardell went on to express her disappointment that her son allowed his friends and social media to hype him up and profit from interviews talking about the incident. She pleaded with her son to let the family mourn in peace, but the young people were so social media-driven that they ambushed his car, leading to his death.
Ward Lardell emphasized that two mothers had lost their sons in this tragedy, and their children would grow up without fathers. She vowed to deal with the matter according to her own principles and stated that she was not a weeper but a worshipper. She had faith that God had this situation under control, and she would keep the motion going to honor her son’s memory.
In her statement, Ward Lardell made it clear that she was not the type of mother to cover up her child’s wrongdoings. She acknowledged that her son had made his own choices, and like many of us, he had not always made wise decisions. Nonetheless, he was a wonderful father, son, and brother who loved his family and was on his way to a great music career.
Ward Lardell invited people to donate to her family through Cashapp and Venmo accounts. She signed off by saying “R.I.P TO MY SOLDIER DARRELL JAH-Qui Gentry a.k.a BTB SAVAGE.”
BTB Savage’s mother also announced that funeral services will be shared later on, and she is currently focusing on comforting her grandchildren who are grieving the loss of their uncle Debop and their father, who was dearly loved. She also expressed gratitude for all the prayers and condolences she and her family have received.
After the tragic death of BTB Savage, criticism of DJ Vlad and his media outlet, Vlad TV, has resurfaced. Numerous individuals have taken to social media to express their displeasure and indignation towards DJ Vlad, alleging that he profits from young artists by promoting and encouraging violence in the hip-hop community.
Benzino, a well-known rapper and former reality TV star, was one of the first to speak out against Vlad TV. In a tweet, he said, “The Curse of Vlad TV… I ain’t never going on that sh*t again. The Culture is already killing each other at such a high rate that we don’t need instigators by an outsider.”
Asian Doll, another prominent rapper, also voiced her criticism of Vlad and his platform, calling it “pure COP WORK.” She urged other rappers to stop going on Vlad TV and talking about “Hood Politics,” arguing that Vlad doesn’t fully understand or live the reality of those experiences.
The criticism of Vlad TV has been ongoing in the hip-hop community. This is not the first time that the platform has been called out for its content. In 2021, Soulja Boy also expressed his anger towards DJ Vlad in a video where he said, “YOU SEE HOW MANY RAPPERS OUT HERE DYING?”. Soulja Boy had accused Vlad TV of exploiting rappers and their stories for profit.
The recent tragedy of BTB Savage’s death has once again raised questions about the ethics of Vlad TV and the impact of its content on the hip-hop community. Many artists are now urging their peers to avoid Vlad TV and other platforms that exploit the struggles of the black community for profit.
It is important to emphasize that there are unsettling circumstances surrounding the death of BTB Savage. Prior to his untimely passing, he had posted a disturbing photo on social media, where he posed in a pool of what seemed to be blood from the killing of Richardson, which had occurred two months earlier. Just hours after sharing this photo, he was fatally shot in Houston, leaving many to speculate about the possible connections between the two incidents.
The investigation into the death of BTB Savage is still ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days. Meanwhile, the hip-hop community continues to mourn the loss of another young artist and urges for justice to be served.
