Justin Bieber Cancels Shows Due To Facial Paralysis
Justin Bieber Has Been Diagnosed With Ramsay Hunt syndrome
Justin Bieber has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that causes facial paralysis and can cause serious hearing loss.
The pop star has been forced to cancel his shows on his “Justice World Tour” after a shingles outbreak affected his facial nerve.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome affects the facial nerve near someone’s ears and can cause paralysis in the face, speech problems, and hearing loss. The condition is rare and usually resolves itself without treatment within a few months.
Bieber shared a video on Instagram explaining that he has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, adding: “Unfortunately for those who have tickets for my upcoming shows, I’m not physically capable at this time of doing them.”
The Justice World Tour, which began in February, revealed earlier this week that three performances will be canceled.
Justin explains: “It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis”
The pop star continued by saying: “As you can see this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. So there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.”
Justin demonstrated to his fans how severe his condition is in the video by grinning and blinking at them as the right side of his face stayed immobile.
“This is pretty serious, as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case, but, obviously, my body’s telling me I’ve got to slow down,” he explained.
“I hope you guys understand. I’ll be using this time to just rest and relax and get back to a hundred percent so that I can do what I was born to do.”
The 28-year-old star posted a message with the video: “IMPORTANT PLEASE WATCH. I love you guys and keep me in your prayers”
The Canadian pop star went on to say that he’s been performing facial workouts to get back to normal, but he doesn’t know how long it will take.
What Is Ramsay Hunt Syndrome?
According to medical experts, Ramsay Hunt syndrome is most common in people between the ages of 50 and 70, though it has been seen in people as young as 20 or 30. It can occur at any time during a shingles outbreak, which is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox.
Symptoms are usually milder than those of shingles itself and may include numbness or tingling on one side of your face or neck; pain behind one eye; trouble chewing or swallowing food; problems with eye movement; drooping eyelid; double vision; hearing loss; dizziness; ringing in your ears (tinnitus); sneezing or runny nose if you have allergies.
The condition is rare and usually resolves itself without treatment within a few months but can become permanent.
Ramsay Hunt Syndrome Causes
Ramsay Hunt syndrome is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox and shingles.
The virus is thought to infect the facial nerve near the inner ear in persons who have this disease. The nerve becomes irritated and swells as a result of this.
Adults are the ones who are most affected. It’s only observed in children in a few situations.
What Are The Symptoms?
Among the signs and symptoms are:
- Ear discomfort that is intense
- On the side with the damaged nerve, a painful rash appears on the eardrum, ear canal, earlobe, tongue, and roof of the mouth
- On one side, you have hearing loss
- The sensation of things spinning
- Face droop and paralysis on one side, causing difficulties shutting one eye, chewing (food falls out of the weak corner of the mouth), forming expressions, and delicate motions of the face, as well as facial droop and paralysis.
Treatment
Steroids (such as prednisone) are commonly used as strong anti-inflammatory medicines. Antiviral medications like acyclovir and valacyclovir may be prescribed.
If the pain persists after the use of steroids, powerful medications may be required. Wear an eye patch while your face is weak to prevent harm to the cornea (corneal abrasion) and other eye damage if your eye does not close completely. To keep their eyes from drying out, some people use a specific eye lubricant at night and artificial tears throughout the day.
If you’re experiencing dizziness, your doctor may recommend different medications.
Prevention
Although there is no known method to avoid Ramsay Hunt syndrome, early treatment with drugs can help in recovery.
