Lil Baby, the Grammy-winning rapper who rose from the streets of Atlanta to reach the top of the rap game, is getting his own documentary.
The Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby will come to Amazone, Prime Video on August 26.
The announcement was made by the filmmaker Karam Gill on July 22 on his Instagram page. Gill has been working for several years on the “The Untrapped” documentary of Lil Baby and he’s ready to share it with the world.
In a statement, Gill said: “This project has been in the works for several years now, during some of the most difficult times our country has faced. I couldn’t be prouder of the entire filmmaking team and the continued collaboration between Quality Films and MGX Creative to create another meaningful project that sheds light on larger societal issues. Lil Baby is someone who truly defied the odds, and I hope his story can bring positivity into our world.”
The documentary will go behind the scenes of Lil Baby’s rise to fame and explore how he became one of hip-hop’s most influential artists. It will also follow him as he faces major life changes that include going to prison and questioning his future after his release.
The documentary also explores the systematic injustice that keeps many Afro-Americans from achieving the American Dream while also showing the growth of a wonderful musician and activist.
The official trailer released by Prime Video features a number of major hip-hop personalities that have influenced Lil Baby in both his personal and professional life. Stars like Drake and Young Thug appear in the movie trailer. They each talk about their bond with the rapper and provide their thoughts on Baby’s significance in the music industry.
In addition to interviews with figures like Drake and Young Thug, the film will also feature commentary from Quality Control CEO and founder Pierre “P” Thomas—who helped guide Lil Baby’s rise.
Lil Baby shared the trailer on his Instagram with the following caption: “I know Y’all Waiting On My Album, Me Toooo But I Been Holding Off To Make Everything Come Together!! Shoutout to Amazone Studios, Prime Video, and Quality Films. For Helping Me Gift The World A Little Part Of Me. Álbum & Documentary Soon … Let’s Goooooo”
On Saturday, June 11, the movie had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, where Lil Baby also performed.
The presenter of the film’s debut at the Tribeca Film Festival questioned Lil Baby about his early impressions of the film. Lil Baby gave the following response to the query: “The first time I seen it I dropped a tear or two.”
If you’re a Lil Baby fan, this documentary is a must-watch. It’s not just the story of his rise to fame—it’s the story of how he became who he is today.
“Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby” will be available on Prime Video on August 26th in over 150 countries across the globe. Prep for the movie by getting ready to witness how it all started.
