Drake Throws Shade at Childish Gambino’s “This is America” During Concert Tour

Recently Hip-Hop legend Drake made fun of Childish Gambino‘s well-known song “This is America” during the first night of his tour in Chicago. This caught the attention of fans and the media, sparking rumors of a feud between the two artists.

During Drake’s show on July 5th, a screen on the side of the stage displayed the following words: “The overrated and over-awarded hit song ‘This is America’ was originally a Drake diss record.” This message specifically referred to Childish Gambino and his popular hit song from 2018. Gambino himself admitted that the song was initially intended as a way to diss Drake.

In an interview with GQ, Childish Gambino openly discussed his relationship with Drake, revealing that “This Is America” song initially began as a joke, intending to poke fun at Drake, but it evolved into something remarkable. Gambino explained, “I had the idea three years before. I told Hiro the idea, and he’s like, ‘I really want to do that.’ The idea for the song started as a joke. To be completely honest, ‘This is America’—that was all we had, was that line.”

“It started as a Drake diss, to be honest, as like a funny way of doing it. But then I was like, this shit sounds kind of hard though. So I was like, let me play with it.”: he continued.

As time went on, “This is America” gained immense popularity and achieved the prestigious platinum award.

Some people think that when Gambino performed in Sydney, Australia back in 2014 he dissed Drake with the following verse: “This n*gga think he, Drake. Nah, I ain’t Drake, I sing better, I do better, my sh*t wetter.”

In 2018 Drake responded back in his song “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” by saying, “Are you childish by calling my name on a world stage.”
