Renowned producer, artist, and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Jermaine Dupri, recently took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the industry. With a career spanning decades and numerous contributions to the hip-hop and R&B music scene.

In a candid video posted on his Instagram page, Dupri didn't hold back, expressing his concerns about the infiltration of AI into the creative process of making music. He began by questioning why the music industry continues to allow individuals from diverse backgrounds and different industries to disrupt and dictate its direction.

“So today I got a question and I know it's going to have n***as mad at me and all that but I don't give a f*ck about that. This question is like why do we keep having or keep allowing people from different backgrounds, people from different walks of life, different businesses, and all that sh*t come in our business …. the music business, and disrupt our business and then tell us that this is what we should be doing and we start moving by their rules,” Dupri expressed passionately.

Dupri's frustration was palpable as he continued, reflecting on his longstanding concerns that date back to when he founded Global 14. “If y'all been following me for a long time, y'all know when I started Global 14, this was one of the things I was talking about back then, so this ain't no new sh*t. I've been saying this,” he expressed.

The catalyst for Dupri's recent commentary was a message he received from a colleague about a new company called “Udio” and its mission statement. This company claims to be the “latest tech seeking to turn anyone and everyone into a musical virtuoso.” To Dupri, this was not just an innovation but a disrespect to those who have dedicated their lives to mastering musical instruments.

“This company of people that are probably not musicians, that don't give a f*ck about musicians, is saying we're making an app so everybody and anybody can make music and be a music virtuoso,” Dupri expressed incredulously. “That's the word they use. I don't agree with this sh*t and I just want to know why, man. I think it's just… I think it's crazy and I don't understand.”
