It’s no secret that Mozzy‘s made a name for himself as one of the most hardcore rappers in the game. But even he knows when to call it quits—and that time has come.

Timothy Cornell Patterson known by his stage name Mozzy is making headlines on social media for turning himself into prison for federal gun charges. Court documents obtained by TMZ today include Mozzy’s self-written letter to the judge—and it’s clear that his primary reason for carrying a gun without a permit was to protect his kids.

The federal gun charge he was facing stems from a traffic stop in January 2021 in Culver City, California, where police found a Glock 26 plus 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition in his vehicle.

Mozzy isn’t happy about this situation, but he knows he has to face the music and do the time.

In the court documents obtained by TMZ, Mozzy wrote a letter to the judge describing the case as a “wake-up call,” and saying he’s cleaned up his drug use. He highlighted the fact that a lot of Black rappers make headlines for being murdered—and that’s not something that sits right with him.

“My lawyers also told me there is a recent study that proves the number one cause of death among black rappers is murder (specifically by gunfire).”

The Sacramento rapper is hoping that his kids won’t end up fatherless—that’s why he carried a gun without a permit. “The reason I’m writing this letter is that I’m afraid my kids will end up fatherless,” he writes.

Mozzy’s letter obtained by TMZ adds: ” It is a fear that all black rappers carry with them, all the time. I know that does not legally justify ‘me’ possessing a firearm. But I took some comfort in the fact that I knew with certainty I was not going to use that gun for illegal purposes. I wanted it solely for self-defense in case of an attack against me or my family.”

Mozzy made his comeback with his seventh studio album, Survivor’s Guilt, only a few months after agreeing to a deal with Yo Gotti‘s CMG brand.

One of the most popular songs among Dilemaradio listeners is “Open Arms,” which is featured on the album’s 14 tracks.

Mozzy is one of the most talented rappers, but he’s also one of the realest artists in the music industry. We’re always rooting for him because we know he has what it takes to bounce back from anything life throws at him.
