AKS – Let Me Explain (Wordplay Freestyle)

British Hip-Hop artist AKS, pronounced “Ay-Kay-Ess,” is grabbing attention with his upcoming project “As Plane as Day: Departures & Arrivals.” But let’s explore further into the backstory of this emerging talent.

Growing up in a household filled with jazz and Afrobeat influences, AKS credits his father, a saxophonist and keyboardist, for igniting his passion for music. From singing in school assemblies to delving into the underground music scene, AKS found his calling in hip-hop, inspired by legends like Nas, Jay-Z, and Eminem.

His journey as an artist hasn’t been without its challenges. After releasing his debut project,  AKS took a hiatus to refine his craft and explore new avenues of creativity. This break, he explains, was crucial for personal growth and artistic development. He expressed the importance of authenticity and staying true to oneself in a saturated industry.

In 2016, AKS got attention with his sophomore EP, “Train of Thought,” earning critical acclaim and nominations at the Unsigned Music Awards. Despite the success, AKS took another hiatus to focus on life experiences and hone his sound.

Fast forward to 2020, AKS dropped “Up & Up (Heavens Above),” a track that got love from big names like DJ Semtex and Chuck D, showing he’s one of the UK’s rising stars.

His next single, “Parity,” hit hard with its message about Black fatherhood. It got airtime on both sides of the Atlantic, showing AKS’s reach. Then there’s “Seasons Change,” a nod to his UK Garage roots, which got props from BBC 1xtra and landed on Ministry of Sound’s playlist.

Beyond his solo career, AKS is also a co-founder of Less is More Music, a record label dedicated to showcasing emerging talent. He reflects on the challenges of running an independent label in today’s music scene but remains committed to providing a platform for artists to thrive.

With a new project, “As Plane as Day: Departures & Arrivals”, in the proverbial wings and the promise of further singles and collaborations spilling out over the year; it’s clear that this is one journey that isn’t set to end any time soon for the rap prodigy and the world is definitely within reach for this undeniable talent.
