Hip-hop fans around the world have been left divided after Melle Mel, the lead vocalist and songwriter of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, questioned Eminem‘s position on the Billboard top 50 list during an interview with “The Art of Dialogue.” Fans have been eagerly waiting to hear what Crooked I, also known as Kxng Crooked, thinks of Melle Mel’s comments. Crooked is a former member of the famous hip-hop group Slaughterhouse and a respected pioneer in the hip-hop community. In response to the interview, Crooked took to YouTube to share his thoughts on the matter.

Melle Mel, in a clip shared by “The Art of Dialogue,” states his belief that Eminem is only regarded as a top 5 rapper because he’s white. He said: “Obviously he’s a capable rapper if we were talking about sales. He sold more than everybody. If you’re talking about rhyme style, okay he got a rhyme style. But he’s white, he’s white!

Kxng Crooked began by saying that he found Melle Mel’s comments hilarious, but he wasn’t offended by them. He went on to say that he respected Melle Mel and his opinion, but he didn’t agree with him. Crooked then addressed the issue of privilege in the music industry, stating that there is indeed a privilege that comes with being white in the American Music Industry. However, he did point out that Eminem had the support of Dr. Dre, Jimmy Lovine, Paul Rosenberg, Interscope, and Universal Music, which allowed him to achieve the success he has today.

In his YouTube video, Crooked said: “I wasn’t surprised by what Melle Mel said. When you come from an environment like mine, you hear those types of comments all the time. There are sick narratives surrounding many popular artists, not just Eminem. But let’s talk about the privilege that comes with being white in the American Music Industry.”

“It’s a fact that there’s an obvious difference in population and opportunities. Now, let’s change Eminem into a black rapper. If he had Dr. Dre, Jimmy Lovine, Paul Rosenberg, and Interscope Universal behind him, he would potentially sell millions and go far. If we take his color out of the equation and only consider the most brilliant lyricists in hip-hop, Eminem would be sitting at the table”: he continued.

The OG then asked his viewers to imagine if Eminem was a black rapper with the same support behind him. He pointed out that if Eminem was black, he would still be a brilliant lyricist. The hip-hop pioneer said that Eminem’s for being white has nothing to do with his success, but rather it’s his talent and hard work that has allowed him to achieve greatness.

The former Slaughterhouse member then challenged his viewers to create a round table for the most brilliant lyricists in the history of hip-hop, and he believes that Eminem would be sitting at that table. He believes that Eminem is a genius-level lyricist who deserves everything he has achieved.

Crooked said: “He deserves every accolade he’s received. I’m not saying other genius-level lyricists like Rakim, Krs, Kool G, Kane, etc. don’t deserve the same recognition. All of them put in hard work and dedication to the craft and culture, including Eminem.”

With his impressive music career and involvement in multiple successful record labels, it’s clear that Crooked is a talented and influential figure in the world of hip-hop. His collaborations with other well-known artists, including Eminem, only serve to reinforce his status as a highly respected and influential figure in the industry.

Although the topic of Eminem has been a matter of extensive discussion, particularly on social media, the argument about whether being a white rapper played a crucial role in his success is expected to persist for a while. Despite differing viewpoints, it is undeniable that Eminem has had a significant influence on the hip-hop industry and is poised to continue doing so for many years.
