In the previous two years, Jack Harlow has made a significant impact on the music industry, but the rapper now appears to be ready to expand his ambitions.
Louisville native Jack Harlow has decided to pursue a career as an actor.
The 23 years old rapper Harlow has been cast as the protagonist in a remake of the 1992 sports comedy White Men Can’t Jump, which will be released later this year.
In this updated version of “White Men Can’t Jump,” Harlow takes on the character played by Woody Harrelson in the original movie.
Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson appeared in the original White Men Can’t Jump as two basketball players who decide to team up to make money on the streets.
In the original movie, Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson play basketball hustlers, Billy Hoyle and Sidney Deane. They partner up to con their way across the Los Angeles courts, playing a rapidly, risky – and hilarious – game.
Rosie Perez, Tyra Ferrell, Kadeem Hardison, and even late Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek made a brief appearance as himself in the film. Ron Shelton, who previously wrote and directed Bad Boys II, wrote and directed the film “White Men Can’t Jump.”
The film reboot is directed by Calmatic and written by Kenya Barris and Doug Hall. Barris’ firm, Khalabo Ink Society, is also producing the film, and Hall will executive produce alongside E. Brian Dobbins.
The professional athletes Blake Griffin, Ryan Kalil, and Noah Weinstein of the Brooklyn Nets will executive produce through their Mortal Media label.
The remake of the “White Men Can’t Jump” movie was initially revealed in 2017 when Kenya Barris, the creator of Black-ish, agreed to join the project.
Doug Hall, a story editor on Black-ish, has now joined Barris in drafting the remake’s screenplay.
The roles of Wesley Snipes and Rosie Perez from the original film are yet to be filled.
The directors are currently on the lookout for an actor to replace Snipes’ place in the movie. They’re also looking for somebody to play Harlow’s long-term girlfriend, Rosie Perez, who portrayed an ambitious “Jeopardy” competitor in the 1992 film.
The Grammy-nominated Jack Harlow recently demonstrated his basketball skills in the Celebrity Game during this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend which took place in February, but it was his audition for the lead role that closed the deal and won over the filmmaking crew.
The Louisville native had never auditioned for an acting role before, but producers and executives were so impressed with what he presented in the room that they offered him the lead role.
Harlow discussed his ambitions for a long and versatile career in the entertainment industry in a recent interview with Variety.
The young rapper expressed himself during the interview with Variety: “Especially now, I work out of fear. I’m terrified to fall off and lose my spot or lose the ground I’ve covered, or not reach the potential that people see,”
“Every time I sit courtside at these games or go to the Met Gala or maybe the Grammys, what’s in my head is ‘I’ve gotta be here next year.’ I don’t want this to be the last time,” he added.
After releasing various mixtapes and EPs throughout the years, Harlow launched his debut studio album “That’s What They All Say” in 2020. In the United States, the album reached number five on the Billboard 200, and since then, he has performed with a number of well-known artists, like Lil Nas X and Eminem.
Harlow’s latest song, “Nail Tech,” was released on February 18th. In May, he will headline the three-day Forecastle Festival in his hometown Kentucky.
