Rapper 22Gz Arrested After Landing At John F. Kennedy Airport

After landing at John F. Kennedy airport on Sunday morning, Jeffrey Mark Alexander, better known by his stage moniker 22Gz, was arrested on accusations of attempted second-degree murder.

The murder charge comes from an incident in March of this year when 22Gz allegedly shot a man in the foot following an altercation.

Second-degree assault, second-degree unauthorized possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment are among the charges made against 22Gz.

For these charges, the rapper’s bail amount has been set at $500,000, which means if he can’t pay, he’ll be held in custody until he can.

The lawsuit will be heard in court on July 19.

Who Is 22Gz?

The 25-year-old rapper hails from Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood.

22Gz is considered a legendary figure of the Brooklyn drill scene.

One of the first significant Brooklyn drill tracks to gain popularity was “Suburban,” recorded by London-based drill artist AXL Beats.

The rapper’s YouTube videos helped him develop a following after releasing the singles “Blixky” and “Suburban” in 2016.

22gz’s success led to a signing with Atlantic in 2018, and his label’s A&R helped him be discovered by Kodak Black.

The Brooklyn native rose to prominence after releasing the “Blixky Tape” mixtape in 2019, which was distributed by Atlantic Records.

The drill legend who helped expose the thriving scene to a broader audience is not often the one who takes it to the Billboard charts.

On Dilemaradio, however, 22Gz music is acknowledged and played, unlike the Billboard music chart.

Throughout 22Gz’s career, his music has always had a raw drill vibe, keeping listeners eagerly awaiting his next release.

22Gz published The Blixky Tape 2’s official deluxe edition, over a year after dropping the first. The 13-song compilation has been expanded by ten songs, increasing the total number of tracks to 23.
