Dahi Finally Steps Out From The Shadows With His Own Album

DJ DAHI has been making beats for everybody else forever, and now he’s finally dropping HIS OWN album. It’s called BLACK BOY (ALTERNATIVE) and it lands AUGUST 28, 2026, according to Stereogum. Track 3, “How To Pray, ” pulls in KENDRICK LAMAR and AMBER MARK, which is already a wild pairing since she’s more R&B soul and Kendrick’s out here rapping about God knows what. A snippet premiered on Childish Gambino’s GILGA Radio and Complex Music confirmed the whole thing on X. Basically the album stayed a secret until it didn’t, and now everybody’s replaying that clip like it’s the only song that exists. Mark your calendar before your phone does it for you.

Track 3 Is Called HOW TO PRAY And Yeah, Kendrick's Actually On It

The song has a name now and it’s called HOW TO PRAY. It’s sitting at NUMBER THREE on Dahi’s tracklist for Black Boy (Alternative), which honestly feels like a power spot. Not the opener, not buried at the end, right up front where people actually listen before they get bored and skip to the single.

According to Stereogum’s report, the track features KENDRICK LAMAR AND AMBER MARK SINGING TOGETHER. Kendrick rapping is normal Tuesday. Kendrick actually singing on a prayer-themed track with an R&B artist is the part that’s making people lose it in the replies.

Dahi’s been the guy behind beats for years without getting his own spotlight, so watching him pull this lineup for his debut album is kind of a flex on its own.

How The Snippet Leaked Out Into The World

It played first on Childish Gambino’s GILGA Radio, then somebody ripped the audio and it hit X. X user @HipHopAllDay posted the video (that’s the clip sitting right above this) and it took off almost instantly. 434 LIKES, 27K VIEWS, 73 REPLIES in barely no time, which for a random snippet post is a lot of people stopping their scroll to run it back twice.

Okay But Why Should You Care

KENDRICK LAMAR DOES NOT NEED TO SHOW UP ON YOUR PRODUCER FRIEND’S DEBUT ALBUM AND HE’S DOING IT ANYWAY. That’s the whole story right there. Dude is one of the biggest rappers alive and he’s out here blessing Dahi, the guy who’s been cooking beats behind the scenes for Kendrick, Drake, SZA, and basically everybody with a Grammy. Now Dahi gets his own spotlight moment with HOW TO PRAY, and Kendrick pulling up on it instantly makes the whole Black Boy (Alternative) album a must-listen instead of a maybe-listen.

Producer albums usually get slept on. This one won’t. When the biggest name in rap co-signs your project, people show up. THAT’S JUST HOW THE GAME WORKS.
