Rapper YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, is currently on trial for the alleged murder of two of his friends in October 2018. The prosecution claims that Demons, along with his accomplice Cortlen Henry, staged the murders to appear as a drive-by shooting. Let’s take a look at the latest developments from Day 13 of the trial.

The trial resumed on Monday, July 10 (2023) in Broward County, Florida, with the prosecution requesting the judge to prevent the defense from using Melly’s history of marijuana use as part of their strategy. The defense argued that Melly’s cannabis consumption affected his memory and ability to recall certain events. However, the judge ruled in favor of the defense, allowing discussion of Melly’s past marijuana habits during the trial.

A close associate and friend of YNW Melly, Treveon Glass, took the stand on Monday. Glass confirmed that YNW Melly had changed his clothes on the night of the shooting and that he saw him later at the house of the Baton Rouge rapper, Fredo Bang.

It is worth noting that last week, in an effort to strengthen their case, prosecutors tried to subpoena Fredo Bang. He was reportedly the one who picked up YNW Melly after YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser were killed in the alleged staged drive-by shooting. However, reaching Fredo Bang proved to be challenging as he ignored the lawyers’ requests. Instead, he chose to release a new rap track titled “Free Melly,” where he explicitly mentioned the subpoena he received.

Continuing the trail, the defense questioned YNW Melly’s former friend about his use of marijuana, particularly if he had smoked it before coming to court. During Glass’s testimony, he mentioned that he should have smoked marijuana before taking the stand, which elicited some laughter in the courtroom.

When asked by the defense if he had smoked weed before going to court, Glass replied, “No,” and then paused. After a moment, he added, “I should have.”

During a brief recess, Glass admitted to texting his brother while still on the witness stand. This raised concerns from the defense that Glass may have been discussing the trial. However, Glass clarified that he was simply sharing general information about court proceedings with his brother and that “things are wild.”

On Monday, a video was shown in court in which YNW Melly appeared to be whispering that he would turn himself in while hiding inside a suitcase. In the video you can hear Melly whispering “My name is Melly and I’m going to turn myself in.” However, the video was not presented to the jury.

YNW Melly Trial: Tuesday, July 11 (2023)

Moving on to Tuesday, July 11, the state played a portion of a documentary about YNW Melly’s life, where YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser were depicted enjoying their time together, smoking weed, and relaxing by a pool. The documentary referred to Juvy and Sakchaser as Melly’s childhood friends.

Before the testimonies began on Tuesday, it came to light that YNW Juvy’s sister had allegedly made threats against Melly’s mother, Jamie King, on social media. As a result, King will now have a bodyguard present whenever she is at the courthouse.

Lastly, it was discovered that YNW Melly was spotted at a music video shoot on the same day that two of his friends were brutally murdered on October 26, 2018. Lead detective Mark Moretti confirmed that the video was filmed and posted on Facebook the same day YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser were shot and killed. The woman filming the video mentioned, “Melly’s still turnt regardless of what happened early in the morning.”

The video we’re about to share hasn’t been shown in court, but it’s making waves on social media. In this footage, YNW Melly is seen on FaceTime with Trippie Redd while he was heading to the funeral of YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser. When Trippie Redd asks what’s happening, Melly replies, “On the way to the damn funeral.” Surprisingly, despite the sad occasion, Melly doesn’t look sad at all. In fact, he’s seen laughing, smiling, and goofing around during the conversation.

Before concluding, there is important new information to share regarding the YNW Melly trial. Recently, evidence has emerged suggesting a potential feud between members of the YNW group.

In these messages, which were read out in court, individuals expressed their frustrations and conflicts. They discussed blocking each other and feeling tired of not receiving credit for their contributions. There were also mentions of exposing someone and feelings of betrayal.

Furthermore, another text message indicated a willingness to part ways and let the other person have everything, expressing the importance of their friendship and promising to repay any debts. However, it was also mentioned that trust had been broken and a desire for space was expressed.

These messages give us a better understanding of how the YNW group interacts and how they feel about each other. This information is important for the trial because it helps us understand why things happened and how the people involved are connected.

As the trial goes on, it’s very important for the court and the jury to think about these new messages. The feud between the YNW members makes the case more complicated.

We expect there will be more updates and new information as the trial goes on. Dilemaradio will keep following the trial closely and let you know about any important new discoveries.
