Power 106 host Bryhana Monegain is taking legal action against hip hop mogul 50 Cent for an incident that unfolded during his concert at L.A.’s Crypto.com Arena on August 30. The bizarre mishap involved a thrown microphone, leaving Monegain with visible injuries and sparking a viral social media frenzy.
The entire ordeal began when 50 Cent became frustrated with technical issues plaguing his microphone not once, but twice during the concert. Fed up with the glitches, he decided to take matters into his own hands, or rather, hurl the mic into the crowd. Unfortunately, the second throw hit Bryhana Monegain, who was standing in an off-stage production area. Concertgoers caught the incident on video, and it quickly circulated on social media platforms.
The 911 call from the 50 Cent concert slipped onto the internet, giving us a sneak peek into the chaos. When the dispatcher picked up, they were hit with a report about a “blunt force trauma to the face” courtesy of a hurled microphone. It was a moment that left everyone, including the emergency services, caught off guard.
Monegain, sporting a visible gash on her forehead, expressed concern about potential brain injuries. “I just want them to check my brain. Like, am I going to be okay? I just want to make sure ain’t nothing bleeding,” she said.
In response to the incident, Monegain has filed a lawsuit against 50 Cent, citing “severe and permanent injuries,” including a concussion and laceration on her forehead. The lawsuit alleges that 50 Cent “threw the microphone towards a crowded area, causing the microphone to strike her face and left wrist, resulting in severe and permanent injuries.” The listed injuries include a concussion, forehead laceration, and pain in her left wrist. Monegain also complained of dizziness, headaches, light and sound sensitivity, and nausea.
The legal action seeks compensation for lost wages during Monegain’s hospitalization, along with medical expenses and other damages.
Interestingly, back in November, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office announced that they would not be pressing charges against 50 Cent. The rapper’s lawyer, Scott Leemon, maintained 50 Cent’s innocence, stating, “He would never intentionally strike anyone with a microphone,” and added that those claiming otherwise were “misinformed” and lacking all the facts.
The outcome of this legal dispute will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the entertainment industry, influencing how future incidents of this nature are addressed and preventing similar mishaps. The court’s decision could potentially reshape the protocols and expectations surrounding artist conduct during concerts, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and precautionary measures to avoid harm to those involved in the production and the audience alike.
